Transparency help - Paint Shop Pro Photo x2?

I have two windows open in PSP - one is a picture of me (it is the background of the little window) and the other is a gradient transparent background (it has the checkerboard look). Now I want to make the gradient appear over the pic of me, so that you can still see me but the gradient checkerboard is layered over the picture. How do you do this?
