Would the complexity of the mind lead to a human's downfall?

I've been thinking about this for a while now it seems to me that a humans in some cases can't handle the mind itself. I mean if you look at people in history like Hitler, Stalin sucbed to their own lust for power and at the same time they couldn't control their selfish desire which almost definitely lead to their brutal set demise... it just seems oddly strange that humans have this trait embedded in their mindset to sucb to their false sense of superiority for their own personal gain that will always result in a terrible demise and ultimately shows were always going to repeat this terrible cycle in history... what if we could learn from our mistakes...but is our mind playing against us for its false sense of superiority to control us in general...
