What video games for Playstation 2 are similar to the "Dragon Warrior" games from the original Nintendo?

I think there were 7 Dragon Warrior games that you could play with the original Nintendo system from back in the day. I remember you had to fight slimes and then work up to harder "creatures" and in some of them you had to travel to different islands and stuff. I'm looking for anything similar to those games that are out now for a Playstation 2 gaming system.
